The process fails, anda toll for using this type of alchemy, the older brother, Edward Elric loses his left leg while the younger brother, Alphonse Elric loses his entire body. To save his brother, Edward sacrifices his right arm and is able to affix his brother's soul to a suit of armor. With the help of a family friend, Edward receives metal limbs - "automail" - to replace his lost ones. With that, Edward vows to search for the Philosopher's Stone to return the brothers to their original bodies, even if it means becoming a "State Alchemist", one who uses his/her alchemy for the military.
I don't watch anime that much but decided to give this one a try after seeing so many positive reviews and I'm glad to say that i wasn't disappointed even a bit !<br/><br/>Viewing anime morea fiction and not a reality i constantly tried to look for flaws in this show and undermine it,but i was blown away by it. The characters are all brilliant,the pace of the story was to the point neither fast nor slow. Not even a tiny detail was left out, it had been all thought it through. The team has really done a good job overall. One thing i loved so much about this show was that each and every character was given equal importance and attention not just the elric brothers. The character developments and also the sound effects throughout the show was perfect. Although I haven't seen the original series but by judging the response this series received it's safe to say that someone should probably go for the brotherhood series first. I hope they bring out a series that takes off after the ending off this series. Overall it's safe to conclude that this anime was fantasticit's the first review written by me on IMDb.
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is a near perfect adaptation from the acclaimed manga series. The story follows two likable protagonists Edward and Alphonse Elric, who are both on a quest to restore their original bodies after a failed attempt of bringing their mother back, resulting in Edward having a metal arm and a leg and Alphonse being a soul bonded to a suit of armour. During their quest the two brothers run into a conspiracy that threatens the country and maybe even the planet. The voice acting is flawless and so is the animation, but since nothing is perfect here is the flaws of the series (this is basically nitpicking): 1. The beginning of the series feels rushed. 2. There are a couple things missed out from the manga here and there. Other from these the series is basically perfect and the worst thing about it is that finishing it is extremely upsetting,it was amazing the whole way through. Overall I think Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is an absolute must watch for anyone, it has brilliant story, characters, animation and the soundtrack is already being replayed over and over on my phone,every music track is amazing.

No, this has no relation with the movie or the previous tv series at all. This series follows more closely to the original manga than it's predecessor, though there are still some cuts from the original source material throughout the series. Several characters from the original manga that were left out of the previous series are used for this series, justhow there are numerous characters from the previous series that are exclusive to that series and are not used here (along with a few minor manga characters that were used in the first series but not here). Also while episodes 2-14 use similar material to the previous series, there are notably a few plot changesit reflects based on what occurred in the manga and not the previous series. Episode 15 would officially start with the material from the manga that was never used before.
